Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.

Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.

His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.

The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.

The veteran finished practice in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.

The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
